Felicity Gunn
Felicity
Felicity was a property lawyer in London for ten years. She re-trained as a teacher – funnily enough the skills in each profession are quite similar: explaining complex ideas simply; administrative efficiency and client/pupil care. For almost thirty years [including sixteen years in Oxfordshire] she has taught English, Philosophy and Ethics, and Religious Studies to 11-18year-old boys and girls, in all types of schools in different parts of England.

As Head of Sixth Form, she developed a thorough knowledge and expertise of universities and undergraduate courses, so she could support her students in their applications for university. She is highly trained in developing skills in independent learning and critical thinking. Felicity’s students have developed a sophisticated ability in writing, enabling them to achieve top results at A Level and entrance to their first-choice university. As Head of Year 7, responsible for transition from primary to secondary school, she worked closely with parents and primary schools to ensure children settled quickly and sustained academic progress.

Felicity has developed a deep understanding of education and how children learn, not only from her experience in the UK but also through travelling extensively and working with internationals in many countries: teaching and teacher training in Uganda and Zambia and visiting schools in Europe, Africa and India. This year she was recognised as a facilitator on courses presenting the Richard Lewis Cross-Cultural Communications Model for Business.

Having completed a Masters in Education, Felicity served as a Governor of two schools: a comprehensive as it became an academy and a prep school. She has also served on the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education; and still relishes working with young people as a tutor in English and mentor to undergraduates of her alma mater, Exeter University.
